But headline claims are the easy part. The parts that decide whether you are happy in month eighteen rather than week two are buried in warranty language, return terms, how much stone the stove can actually carry, and the gap between how many people a tent is rated for and how many actually fit. So this comparison spends most of its time there. Every KYFE detail below comes from KYFE's own published policy and product pages.

The 30% restocking fee

Both companies put "60 Day Returns" in the top banner. Here is what each one means by it.

North Shore Sauna: if you are not happy, you get a full refund within 60 days of purchase. We do not refund the original or return shipping cost. That is the whole policy, and it is published on our warranty and returns page.

KYFE: you may return within 60 days, but the product must be unused and in original packaging, and a 30% restocking fee applies to all returns. On the $1,499 Large tent, that is about $450 you do not get back. On the $1,099 Mini, about $330. KYFE's policy states the fee covers return shipping, cleaning, and repackaging. Cancel before it ships and you still forfeit payment processor fees of roughly 2.5% to 4.5%.

The word "unused" is doing a lot of work there. A sauna tent that has never been fired is a sauna tent you have not evaluated. The entire point of a trial window is to burn a few fires, sit in the heat, and find out whether it works for you. Under KYFE's terms, doing that appears to cost you the return.

Rock capacity: the spec sauna people ask about first

Ask a lifelong sauna bather what matters in a stove and temperature will not be the first answer. Rocks will be. How many the stove can carry, and how many come in the box.

North Shore Sauna: our Standard stove holds 40 to 50 lbs of sauna stones in its rock basket. Our XL stove, built for the Nova 6 and Dome and for cold-climate owners, holds 70 to 80 lbs. Our thermal sauna stones are Olivine Gabbro sourced from Northern Minnesota bedrock, and they ship in sets of 35 to 40 lbs.

KYFE: KYFE does not share the rock load capacity of its stoves, so we are unsure how much stone they are designed to carry. If rock capacity matters to you, and it should, ask them directly before you buy.

Why more rock means a truer sauna

In a traditional Finnish sauna, the fire heats the stones and the stones make the sauna. Everything people love about a real session comes out of that rock mass.

Better löyly. Löyly is the wave of steam that rolls off the stones when you ladle water on them. A deep bed of hot stones turns each ladle into soft, enveloping steam. Round after round. Every pour pulls heat out of the stones. With a larger rock mass, the stones recover and you can keep throwing water through a long session. With a small load, a few ladles can cool the rocks enough that the steam goes flat until the fire catches back up.

Softer, more even heat. Stones stacked around and above the stove body absorb and spread heat instead of leaving you facing hot bare steel. That is the difference between feeling baked on one side and feeling surrounded by heat.

Heat that outlasts the fire. A heavy stone load keeps radiating after the wood burns down, so the end of your session does not fall off a cliff.

The extreme-weather warranty clause

This is the one most buyers will never read and some will eventually care about.

KYFE's warranty states that the furnace and tent must be stored in an interior space during extreme weather, and that the warranty is invalid if KYFE determines damage was caused by prolonged exposure to extreme weather. Their product page adds that in heavy snow, strong winds, or ice, it is best to store or cover the tent.

Now consider how people actually use these. Our reviewers describe leaving a tent set up in the yard through multiple snowstorms, running it through a full sub-zero winter, keeping it up continuously from October through April, and using it in Vermont at -20°F. One Ohio owner has run his three to five times a week since summer 2025. That is not edge-case behavior. For a lot of buyers in cold climates, leaving it standing all winter is the entire reason to own one.

North Shore Sauna's warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and excludes improper use, accidents, unauthorized modification, and normal wear. There is no weather-exposure carve-out and no indoor-storage requirement.

We rate our tents for how many adults can sit comfortably, with safe clearance from the stove, on real benches. Not for how many bodies can technically stand inside.

Here is how the numbers work out.

KYFE Large: a 6.5 by 6.5 foot interior, roughly 42 square feet, rated for 6 to 8 people. At eight people that is about five square feet each, roughly a two-by-two-and-a-half-foot rectangle per person, and that is before you subtract the stove and its clearance.

North Shore Nova 4: roughly 50 square feet of interior on a pentagonal floor plan, rated for 4. About 12 square feet each.

North Shore Nova 6: a 7.5 by 9 foot floor plan, rated for up to 6, with room for two full-size benches. About 11 square feet each.

Our smallest group tent, at full rating, gives each person more than twice the space KYFE's top rating does. We would rather you be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. One Nova 4 owner told us they have had five adults inside easily, which is exactly the direction a capacity rating should miss in.

Compare the ratings and the KYFE looks like more sauna for the money. Compare the square footage and the picture changes. There is also no KYFE option between 3 people and 6, which is a problem if you want the size most households actually want. Four is our most popular tent by a wide margin.

What KYFE owners say

KYFE holds roughly 284 reviews across its site at about 90% five stars, with about 139 on the main tent averaging 4.86. That is a solid record and we are not going to spin it otherwise.

The praise is straightforward. Owners consistently report it heats up fast, sets up easily solo, and works as advertised. An Alaska commercial fisherman moves his between boats all summer and says it keeps going. One owner reported it held up through big storms and high winds. Another praised proactive customer service after an accidental duplicate order was refunded without being asked. The ash tray in the stove gets specific praise for making cleanup quick.

The critical feedback is specific. One owner reported that the rock box needs a flange below the stove top so poured water does not splatter out the sides and burn people. Another found the included thermometer inconsistent enough that they planned to replace it.
