Duties and Taxes: What to Know

Because tents ship from the US, Canadian orders may be charged customs duties, import taxes such as GST/HST, and a brokerage fee when they arrive. These are collected by the carrier at delivery, not at our checkout, and are the recipient's responsibility. The amount depends on your province and order value. If you're buying a gift for someone in Canada, let them know a charge may be due on delivery.

Built for a Canadian Winter

North Shore tents are designed in Duluth, on the shore of Lake Superior, where winters look a lot like Ontario's and Manitoba's. All our tents use insulated fabric and a wood stove, so they don't depend on electricity or the outside temperature:

  • Rated to 200°F (93°C) or more. "I've had it well over 220°F in summer and over 200°F in winter." (Jordan W., Nova 4 owner)
  • Tested in deep cold. One owner kept a Nova 4 set up in the yard "through multiple snow storms" at -20°F (-29°C), and the Dome is built for -30°F (-34°C).
  • The traditional cool-down. Step out into the snow or a frozen lake between rounds.

For a couple at the cottage, the Mini Cube is the easiest to carry and the fastest to heat (about 15–20 minutes). For a family or a dock-side sauna with friends, the Nova 4 is our best seller. See What Size Sauna Tent Do You Need?

Before You Fire It Up

  • Check local rules. Provinces and municipalities can restrict outdoor wood fires during fire bans, and campgrounds and parks have their own rules.
  • Pick a safe spot. Choose level ground outdoors, clear of overhanging branches, buildings and anything that can catch a spark. Wood-fired sauna tents are for outdoor use only.
  • Plan your firewood. Dry, seasoned hardwood heats fastest. The Mini Cube is especially efficient on wood.
